Today we had so much fun deconstructing the stuff for our reverse engineering project! Unit 6 is going to be a blast. My only worry is that we just won't have time to do everything we want to do to make the projects great! Kids were pulling things apart, measuring, and most of all asking great questions. How does this go together? How does this work? How can we take this apart? What does this part do? How do I measure that? Kids were pulling apart glue sticks, pencils, a Yoda Pez dispenser, pens, and other various household items and toys. I had to tell them to pack up and go to their next hour.
This unit is so interesting! Students have the opportunity to reverse engineer theautomoblox car or one that they choose. Some innovative ideas have come from really understanding an existing product and thinking of a way to modify that product for a new function or for an improved user experience. Below are two video's from the "Little Devices Lab" that uses children's toys in innovative ways.
Sample projects from activity 6.4: 1. Dump Truck :) 2. Pen 3. Cleaning Bottle 4. Automoblox Sports Car! 5.Flashlight project (this is a video of a presentation) Some more examples and resources are found here!
